With the Keynote speech from Google Fellow Amit Singhal, a workshop from the Search Alliance and specific routes for both SEO and Paid Search, the day was packed full with useful information.

From the SEO route we found the sessions on “King Content vs. Panda” and “Social Shares: The New Link Building” provided valuable insight into dealing with algorithm changes and incorporating social link building into wider link building strategies.

Google has always preached that quality content is key but, with the change to their algorithm with the Panda update Google has really enforced this. Also with the Penguin update to Google’s algorithm, SEO’s need to understand and naturalise their websites link profile.

New age social media ‘votes’ such as likes and re tweets, are playing a larger role in SEO. Its not just about SEO but Social SEO and brands need to be creative in the way they engage with their social community as execution is key. You need to have people like you instead of just notice you!

From the Paid Search route, we found the session on “Winning The Click” from creating the perfect Ad Copy provided great information in how to set apart an Ad from the competition. Information outlining how to differentiate an Ad based on the stage the prospect is at in the buying process, such as whether they are researching or have intent to buy at the Search stage, provided valuable insight into how to structure Ad Copy. Also information on the benefits of Google Ace for A/B testing of Ad Copy and destination URLs will prove helpful in driving performance for all our clients.

“Maximizing Paid Search Campaigns With Google” was another sessions we found useful as it reaffirmed our usage of site link extensions to increase click through rates and potentially improving the average order value for our clients. Google ads only allow 95 characters + URL so if you want to increase your click through rate then you better be concise and be relevant at the same time. Leveraging on other extensions can shorten the action-to-purchase process for mobile users which translate into higher conversions.
