A whirlwind week culminated in crack 7thingsmedia teams attending both the Marketing Week Live event at Kensington Olympia on Wednesday 27th and Thursday the 28th, and the NMA Awards 2012 last night.
At #mwl2012 we caught some insightful talks from keynote speakers, saw agencies showcasing their latest innovations, and stocked up on freebies at a fantastic event which really sent the Twittersphere into overdrive.
We caught a talk from Chris Taylor from Lexus about the way they went about making their new site, which successfully doubled the duration people spend on-site. He spoke about standing out and offering a new user-experience; using the example of their new car customising tool – and how it increased conversions online. Then we got caught by a leprechaun and spotted Keith Lemon skulking around the conference
We also caught up with the latest innovations in the industry including QR code tech, the future of the shop window, and the looming social search revolution.
Mark Ritson, columnist for Marketing Week and general marketing guru, spoke about his lessons learned from working with luxury brands. He compared the Anglo-Saxon data-led approach in managing luxury brands, to the French style of letting passion and respect for the brand’s roots and its DNA lead the way. He concluded a convincing and no-nonsense talk by saying the difference in approach is exactly why there are no English CEOs of luxury brands; an interesting point well made, and definite food for thought.
The guys at @facefacts sorted us out with some timely free cake, before more physical endeavours making smoothies via pedal power at the @Kinneir Dufort stand. Jamie at the Dukes of London stand sorted out all the team with some wonderful promotional merchandise, they even had a NFT protection card – these guys are seriously ahead of the game.
Overall we had a great time at the event, want to thank everyone we spoke to and the organisers – we cant wait for next year!
